Is it legal to have a homebirth in Kentucky?Absolutely! I am fully certified, licensed and insured to provide home birth, in addition to other care, within the state of Kentucky.
-
What does care with a homebirth midwife look like?I provide routine prenatal, birth, and postpartum care following standard ACOG guidelines of every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, every 2 weeks until 36 weeks then weekly until you give birth. I also offer standard labs, ultrasounds, medications, etc.
-
Is my home large enough for a birth?I have yet to see a home that is too small to birth in. Many clients have comfortably and safely given birth in apartments. Sometimes I have to get creative to design the birth space you desire, such as one that includes a pool. But if it's large enough for two additional people and a couple bags to get in the door, then there should be no issue.
-
Who will be present at my birth?Assuming everyone has time to arrive, a minimum of a midwife and one assistant will be at your birth. My assistants are experienced birth workers with additional training as midwifery assistants and for birth emergencies, including neonatal resuscitation. The other folks present are whomever you choose.
-
Where will visits be held?I have an office on New La Grange Rd where a majority of visits take place. Immediate postpartum visits are held in your home.
-
Are there any conditions that make me ineligible for care?At this time I am not set up to provide care to clients expecting twins, those who want a trial of labor/vaginal birth after cesarean, or who are planning a vaginal breech birth. I will do a thorough medical history and discuss any medical conditions that may be present.
-
Do you accept insurance?I do not bill insurance. I provide clients with a superbill that can be submitted to their insurance company with the required documentation to request reimbursement. I cannot guarantee the insurance company will reimburse you for the cost of services, full or in part.
-
How much will a homebirth cost?I charge a flat fee of $5000, which covers all visits (prenatal and postpartum) and birth. I offer a 10% discount if your fee is paid by 28 weeks, 5% discount if paid by 32 weeks, and 10% discount for people of color. The full fee must be paid by 36 weeks. This fee does not include labs, ultrasounds, or visits with another provider if necessary (these things can be billed to your insurance as usual). The fee does not include the birth supplies. The birth kit is purchased online and includes disposable items you will need (sterile gloves, pads, etc.) and is less than $100. If you opt to have a labor tub, you are also responsible for that cost.
-
What services do you offer?Primarily pregnancy, birth, postpartum care as well as routine GYN to include annual/pap, STI testing and treatment, contraception/family planning, etc. as well as uncomplicated primary care. I hope to offer fertility care such as ICI and IUI and more extensive GYN care in the future.
